Nikk B. - Counselor

Nikki graduated with her MSW, from The University of Illinois – Chicago, in 2010 and has held her LCSW since 2013. Nikki has 7 years’ experience in residential treatment, and has been at The Learning House since 2012. Nikki is a sunshine and rainbows kinda gal, and strives hard to find the positives in all situations and people!

Brian C. - Counselor

Brian earned a BA in Special Education from Loyola University of Chicago. After graduating from Loyola University, Brian worked as a middle school special education teacher in Chicago Public Schools. Following his time as a teacher, Brian attended DePaul University where he earned a Masters of Social Work. Brian has experience working for residential programs, wilderness therapy programs, and therapeutic day schools, focusing on meeting the clinical needs and empowering early to late adolescent clients. When not at work, Brian spends his time camping, hiking, and weight lifting.  ​

Freddy C. - Senior Teacher

Freddy has been part of The Learning House teaching staff since February of 2009.  He obtained a Bachelor’s Degree in Hotel Restaurant Management in 2001 from Northern Arizona University, his LBS1 from National Louis University in 2012 and Education Specialist in 2015.  Freddy enjoys spending time with his family, running half marathons every year, and traveling to sunny destination worldwide.

Tom B. - Senior Teacher

Tom has been involved with The Learning House since he helped out with Camp in the summer of 2011.  Since then, he has graduated from The Ohio State University in 2012 where he received a B.A. in Criminology along with a minor in Forensic Science.  Tom has been teaching the math courses at TLH since the 2014-2015 school. In June 2017, Tom received his M.A.T. in Special Education from National Louis University.  Outside of work, Tom enjoys traveling, sporting events, and concerts. 

Laura B. - Teacher

Laura is our English teacher, who has been with The Learning House for 7 years. She has a Bachelor of Science in Communication Sciences and Disorders from Florida State University, a Masters in Special Education from Northeastern Illinois University, and earned her Reading Endorsement from Olivet  Nazarene University. Laura holds an LBS 1 license with a reading endorsement for secondary education. She has an affinity for helping others and coordinates monthly service opportunities for our students.

Matt F. - Associate Teacher

Matt received his Bachelor’s Degree in Entrepreneurship and Operations from the University of Dayton. After graduating, I started as an associate teacher at East Capitol High School and later transferred to my current position at The Learning House. During that time, Matt has taught a variety of subjects including Physical Education, History, Business, Art, and other electives. Matt has coached in the CAAEL sports program at both schools and is a true believer that students can use the lessons they learn through sports both in the classroom and in their future career. 

Lisa B. - Associate Teacher

​Lisa is responsible for teaching science classes in our program. She graduated from Grace College with a Bachelor's Degree in Life Science Secondary Education. Lisa has a passion for the environment and enjoys spending her time outdoors.  

Casey H. - Associate Teacher

Casey is an associate teacher. He earned his Bachelors in Economics from the University of Illinois at Chicago and his Masters in Teaching from National-Louis University with a concentration in secondary education mathematics. He enjoys playing competitive chess and wrestling with his two kids.
